Collection of Intermedial and Digital Art

The development of new media, media and post-media practices, as well as interdisciplinary and digital culture, has led to a series of changes on the contemporary art scene in terms of the presentation of exhibitions and events. Changes within the artistic language itself have initiated research into ways of collecting, archiving and protecting (new) media artworks. The question arises as to how museums of contemporary art have responded to new challenges when it comes to the development of the collection and the inclusion of media practices, such as: computer, net and web art, virtual reality art, video games, 3D animations, bioart, virgin art (DIY and DIWO practice), media installations, sound art, actions, interventions, art in public space and performative forms of art (performance, body art, paratheatre...).

The collection of intermediate and digital art was formed through a joint museum platform of introducing interdisciplinary approaches and methods, with the aim of research, mapping, historicization and presentation of intermediate practices and digital culture. In addition to collecting works of art and collecting archives of art documentation, the Collection (formerly the Center) included a wide range of activities, such as: exhibitions, presentations, film screenings, discussions, workshops, etc. Which include collaborators and institutions from the domestic and international context. The aim of the Collection is to indicate the appreciation of changes in artistic and social practice by museum institutions, as well as the possibility of active application of new solutions. The practice of editing with digital content, the possibility of re-realization of the work and its post-production (printing, performance, assembly, presentation, etc.), the purchase of the author's conceptual instructions for the realization of the artistic work, the parallel existence of the artwork online as a publicly available asset, archiving was introduced. documentation of temporary artistic work, its performance, etc. In the Museum's practice, it is therefore noticeable that the Collection's activity takes place mainly through exhibitions and public events, online presentations of works of art, art documentation and archives of artist interviews, which regularly achieves communication and interaction with the public.

The first results of the work are international projects and exhibitions, among which stand out: Collection of media practice MSUV, WonderLab, RISK CHANGE, Milky Way, Feminist vanguard ‒ On the road to freedom, and publications: Bogdanka Pozanović: Contact Art, Skok i zaron.
